How to learn golf the right way

In this article, I reveal 10 of the most common mistakes made by those who wish to learn the game of golf.  Unfortunately, these 10 mistakes prove to be costly in terms of time, effort and money wasted on the apprentice golfer. They soon come to believe that they have no talent for golf and abandon their dream of becoming a golfer. What a shame!

The 10 most common mistakes

    1. Golf preconceptions or myths, including keep your eyes on the ball;
    2. Learn without a teaching method, or, worse, follow advice from multiple teachers at the same time (on You Tube, for example, which creates confusion in your mind);
    3. Repeating the same gestures unconsciously and without knowing the real tool for learning: the two cerebral hemispheres;
    4. Not using the routine during one’s practice sessions and, therefore, repeating the same mistakes unconsciously;
    5. Rushing to the driver (1-wood) to hit as far as possible. This is equivalent to trying to learn to run without knowing how to walk and can only make you a prisoner of many bad habits);
    6. Wanting to hit too hard. Much like the previous mistake, it’s the overwhelming urge to want to hit the ball far that causes you to hit too hard, which inevitably causes you to lose your balance and miss everything;
    7. Skipping steps instead of going gradually. You need to learn the grip first, then start with putting and continue with chipping, followed by pitching, the half swing (half-swing) and, finally, the tee shot. Almost all beginner golfers on the driving range (practice range) do the opposite;
    8. Wanting to execute golf shots before knowing how to swing a golf club. Gross motor skills (pelvis and shoulder turn) must precede fine motor skills (arm and wrist whip), otherwise the swing is too vertical and too sharply. Better to do many drills without the ball to develop the right movements and the fluidity of the swing so essential in golf
    9. The “Do-it-yourself” fashion. Learning golf without a coach and trying to self-diagnose is a utopia. The many unconscious technical errors that result block the golfer’s evolution, especially since golf is a very counter-intuitive sport (we are naturally inclined to make the wrong moves even if we are convinced that we are doing the right ones);
    10. Not practicing between golf lessons, or practicing without a specific goal or objective.

The best solution

As you will have understood, it is better to turn to a golf teacher from the outset: this is the safest solution and that quickly gives reliable results.
