Hydration: to play golf better

Hydration and Performance in Golf

Whether you’re a golf beginner or a seasoned pro, you know that playing golf requires visualization, focus and balance. A good way to do this is to keep your brain and body cells well hydrated. That said, it’s important to drink plenty of water each day to maintain a good level of hydration. However, the quality of the water we consume is just as important as the quantity.

Tap water

Tap water, tested daily by municipalities, is drinking water of varying quality. Many naturopaths advise purifying tap water with a carbon filter.

Bottled water

Bottled water, probably the choice of most of you, is nothing more or less than tap water filtered with charcoal to make it clear and tasteless. The main advantage of bottled water is that it is convenient, I agree. However, did you know that 60% of these plastic bottles are not recyclable and end up in nature? This has become a major environmental scourge and that’s why several cities have banned single-use bottles and others are about to do so.

Distilled Water

For my part, I feel it’s the best choice, as long as you add minerals. This is because, while free of toxic heavy metals and pathogens, distilled water lacks the minerals essential for proper body function.

Enhanced Performance

Regular water intake provides increased energy, better concentration and a more stable balance, which greatly improves golfers’ performance. For an 18-hole round, I recommend bringing three 500 ml bottles of water. Maybe even a fourth bottle for a thirsty playing partner?
